What
Hat Goes with your Outfit?
Many
small to mid-size businesses are owned and operated
by people who must switch many hats as the business
develops. To start the business, they were entrepreneurs.
They had the vision, guts and passion. These are critical
assets of entrepreneurs and they wore that hat with
pride.
Unfortunately,
in many cases, entrepreneurs do not know when to take
off that hat and put on one of a CEO. A CEO is someone
who looks to the future and guides the direction the
company will head. That means the CEO must make decisions
that are educated guesses which require gathering information,
reducing risk and considering many perspectives. These
are difficult skills to achieve.
With
these businesses, the same person(s) must also play
the role of president of the company. This hat requires
a person to be involved in the operation and daily success
of the company. The president presides over meetings
and encourages each manager to get the job done. He/she
must lend the courage and inspiration for others to
take action. The president can help coordinate goals
and actions throughout the organization as well.
This
entrepreneur/CEO/president is the one who has skin in
the game. It is his/ her money that is invested. The
tendency in many companies is that every decision is
either made or blessed by this person. Once this happens,
all the former hats must be removed and the manager
hat is donned. The tactical mode becomes in force and
the wearer is no longer leading but is in the trenches
fighting.
These
businesses require key people to wear many hats. Knowing
which one to put on for each occasion is important for
all concerned. Your M1 affiliate, equipped with the
guidance of Management One® processes, can hone
your skills for each position of responsibility. Everyone
will know his role and how to handle the situations
that arise.
"Tell Me How Your Organization Solves Problems"
This
is a typical statement of introduction that many Management
One® affiliates use to better understand the business
of a possibly new Winning@Business client. It has never
been noted that a prospect has ever discussed the process
his organization uses to decide which problem to solve.
Effective
problem solving depends on a definitive process to determine
which is the right problem to solve. In effect, that
is the most difficult task with which teams deal. If
you aren't working on the right issues, chances are
you are not finding the success you are seeking!
Is Your Business Invincible?
The
simple answer to this question is "No." Not
one business is invincible. Some of the greatest businesses
in history have bitten the dust. The amazing aspect
of this question is the enormous number of businesses,
both large and small, that operate as if their answer
to this query is, "Yes, we are invincible!"
Being
invincible means being insulated against change in the
market and the workforce. It means not needing to know
the trends, forecasts or direction of the market. It
means not needing a strategy or direction for the future
of the business. Finally, it means that the employee
pool is as knowledgeable and empowered as it needs to
be.
Management
One® is committed to keeping businesses focused
on growth and continued success. There can never be
any guarantee that a business will be invincible, but
Management One® can provide the training, analysis
and information so that, as an owner or executive, you
can make the right changes and decisions for the future
of your company -- and be better prepared than your
competition.
